On Top: Over the Grand Canyon

Weekly Photo Challenge: On Top.  On the way home from Idaho to Arizona by air a few years back I was flying over the Grand Canyon.  Normally, I would not think that there would be any type of photo opportunity at maybe 35000 ft altitude.  While flying over the Canyon, I thought…  why not… let’s give it a try.  After a little Photoshop enhancement (of course) the pictures were more than I expected.

Photoshop brought the vivid colors back out and I was amazed at how it helped to pick back up the browns and red of the canyon along with the bright blue of the sky.

  1. Nice captures Karen, I’ll be passing Phoenix on my way to Grand Canyon as June becomes July – haven’t been to neither of the places since 96. That’s long overdue… 🙂

    1. Get the window seat and try for a few shots. I just placed my lens against the window and snapped a few shots with flash off. The pictures needed to be adjusted in Photoshop to bring out the colors so don’t be disappointed if the vivid colors don’t show in your pictures. You can get them back. Enjoy your visit to the canyon.

  2. Karen, LOVE that you captured these photos through the plane window 🙂 And LOVE seeing the massiveness of the canyon. I studied the canyon in a freshman geology class in college and have been intrigued by it ever since. It’s definitely on my travel bucket list!

    1. We are lucky to get to see the canyon almost any time we want like you with DC. It’s only 2 hours away. I haven’t been on the rim for a long time and a long overdue visit is due. It is a masterpiece to see even if not from above.

    2. And…you probably think that I am just lurking here waiting for a comment or a like. LOL
😀 Just wrapping up catching up from the holiday Easter weekend and saw your comment. Always enjoy hearing from you.

      1. LOL! Had no pictures in my mind of you lurking 😀 By the way, here’s a crazy question – I’ve seen you reply as KC in some of your comments. Do you prefer that or Karen? Just want to make sure 🙂

        1. it’s funny that I use both Karen and KC. My friends know me as Karen but my initials are KC and I use it everywhere with blogging, Facebook, Twitter and all the social networks. I’m surprised I’m able to get KCinAZ for most social networks. But, Karen is who I really am. I’m glad you’ve picked Karen.
